Variant Lost is book 1 of 3 in the Evelyn Maynard Trilogy. It starts out with Evelyn being 16, then the timeline where her journey actually begins, she is 18. So rest assured, this is not a YA series. However, there are no sex scenes in book 1. This actually works for this novel as it builds tension between its characters. The character development is better than most PNR novels. The plot line is put above the romance, yet you can tell that over time the romance between the characters is building. Some more than others. Alec needs a swift in the coin purse. Variant Lost is a PRN Reverse Harem.

What Evelyn finds at the Bradford Hills Institute are friends, a thirst for knowledge, 3 special guys + 1 asshat. This novel has the right amount of action, sorrow, bad guys, and girls to go around. The author throws in some political issues, and sprinkles a few statistics, but I didn’t think it pulled away from the story or seemed like she was using her text as a soapbox. (I seen this opinion quite a bit on Amazon reviews). I found that I enjoyed this novel and that it had just enough suspense and unanswered questions for me to want to continue reading on when the 2nd book releases. This review is just my opinion. You should strive to form your own should you read it. I highly recommend it as I found it engaging and entertaining.
