Wolves of Crescent Valley Duet (2 book series) by Maya Nicole

Hello, my friends!

Today’s post comes from a reader request. The ask was for undercover girls, and the focus was to be our women disguising themselves as men. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a ton of books that fit this theme. A female twin taking her brother’s place (a la the Shakespeare play The Twelfth Night or more recently Alanna by Tamora Pierce) is my jam.

Although a couple of the books below fit the theme to a T, most represent books where our MC goes undercover as a woman. Still, there are a lot of interesting reads!

As always, images and descriptions are verbatim from Amazon, and as an Amazon Associate, I earn commission from qualifying purchases.

Be well, and happy reading!

***Half Moon Academy is a Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance for 18+ and filled with delicious dialogue, sizzling moments, and fun characters that will leave you wanting more. It includes supernatural types of all kinds: witches, wizards, vampire, werewolves, demons, and more!***

Thoughts from Paige

Half Moon Academy is a series of Novellas, so this may be a good palate cleanser between larger books. The first book has a map, and I LOVE a map at the beginning, probably from all the fantasy books I devour. Also, we have a headmistress instead of a headmaster. I never realized until reading that word that I am so used to seeing a headmaster. I’m adding it to my TBR pile just for that. 🙂

Wolves of Crescent Valley Duet (2 book series) by Maya Nicole
Wolves of Crescent Valley Duet (2 book series) by Maya Nicole
Description from Amazon

From Book 1:

I’m a fox in a wolves’ den.

My assignment was simple: go undercover and report back about wolf sightings in the area.

Instead, I found myself in much deeper with the wolves of Crescent Valley than I’d ever imagined. Lone wolves are mixed up with dangerous humans who know our secret, and it could put all shifters at risk.

Making matters worse, my feelings start to grow for my alphahole boss who has the weight of a secret on his shoulders, a delicious psycho who is obsessed with me but melts my heart, and a mysterious fighter who has something to prove.

Can I protect them while protecting our kind, or will everything crumble around me?

Fox Undercover is a fox and wolf shifter romance told in multiple POVs. The main character does not pick between the men. It contains mature scenes, male/male in later books, language, and a cliffhanger. Duet is now complete.

Thoughts from Paige

The sample hooked me from chapter one. I’ve already downloaded the first book.  This is a complete duet.  This author, Maya Nicole, is new to me.  It’s always exciting to find a new author!! I like her writing style, and really enjoyed the MC’s thoughts and her snark.

Description from Amazon

A dying planet. A conquered mate.

I came to this godforsaken planet to uncover a dark secret. Nothing could have prepared me for what I actually found.

Now, betrayed and stranded in an unforgiving wasteland, I can feel my life slipping away with each breath of poisonous air. Death is certain.

Until the aliens find me.

Horned warriors with glowing green eyes.

They say they will save my life. The power to do so lies within their hard, savagely muscled bodies. But if I give in to their demands, I will be changed forever. Transformed. I will become one of them.

There will be no going back.

The aliens will dominate me. They will share me. And I will bear for them an army of alien spawn to reclaim their conquered planet. It’s so wrong. So shameful. So why do I want it so badly?

I came to uncover a dark secret.

I never expected to find love.

Their Human Vessel is a standalone alien reverse harem romance novel that features no cheating and a well-deserved HEA awaiting the characters at the end of their journey.

Thoughts from Paige

I’m too scared to read the sample… Our MC starts off disguised as a man and embarks on a journey as an undercover journalist. Definitely fits our themes.  Some of the reviews hint at, or plain out state, our MC is sexually abused, or almost raped.  Hard to tell.  So, I’m hoping out of this one.  Let me know if you’ve read it! It sounds really good, and I’m interested in hearing if the trigger warnings are as dark as they foretell.

Academy of Necromancy (3 book series) by H.P. Mallory
Academy of Necromancy (3 book series) by H.P. Mallory
Description from Amazon

From Book 1: I’m so excited to be headed to the Academy of Enchantment, where I’ll be a transfer student for the following year.

Except I never make it.

When a shadow demon boards my train, I’m overcome by his power and I blackout.

And when I wake up? I’m in a place called Dread.

And, yes, Dread is as snug and cozy as the name would imply.

Awaiting my arrival at the train station is Harlow. He’s an incubus—a sex demon, and he’s got instructions to deliver me to my host family.

This means I’ve been expected in Dread. Why? That’s the mystery I need to figure out. And pronto.

But, first, I have to survive the evening at Castle Raven Night, and I have to survive my host family, Count Jean-Claude Von Zarovich… the third.

Yeah, the count might be the hottest guy I’ve ever seen in my life, but he’s also a vampire, and last I checked, vampires eat you.

Then there’s Riven. Riven is the headmaster of the Academy of Necromancy, and he’s the reason I’m here. And, yes, he’s just as freaking hot as Jean-Claude and Harlow. Only I’ve got a bone to pick with Riven because he totally hijacked my plans.

And yet, there’s something about Riven’s soulful eyes, Jean-Claude’s pain, and Harlow’s need that makes me think maybe a quick layover in Dread wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world…

Famous last words.

Thoughts from Paige

Right, well this is probably my weakest inclusion. However, our MC does technically go undercover… I’m including it because it popped up in my search, and I didn’t come up for air until I’d finished the first two books.  I did think our MC TSTL sometimes, but that’s also part of her character so it didn’t irk me too much.

This is NOT a completed series, book three comes out August 2022.

Fate of Three: A Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance (The Descendants) by Jade Alters
Fate of Three: A Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance (The Descendants) by Jade Alters
Description from Amazon

A ruthless collector of dark magical artifacts. Three jaguar shifters intent on taking him down, and they’re asking me to be some kind of undercover spy…

Saying yes seems like the most dangerous decision I could possibly make.

But that’s nothing compared to falling in love with all three of them.

They’ve promised me their protection and I’ve rolled the dice. I’m trusting all three with my love and my life.

Fate of Three is a stand-alone, fast-paced, steamy reverse harem paranormal shifter romance. 18+

Thoughts from Paige

This is not available on KU, so definitely read the sample before preceding.  I did end up buying the book after finishing the sample, but I haven’t read it yet. Our MC hasn’t gone undercover yet as of the end of the sample, but it sounds as though she’ll be going undercover at the requests of the love interests, so no secrets between them perhaps.

The Vampire's Mark (4 book series) by Rachel Jonas
The Vampire's Mark (4 book series) by Rachel Jonas
Description from Amazon

From Book 1: ***NOW A COMPLETE SERIES!***
Four blood-sucking princes. A beautiful anarchist. One dangerous mistake.

To the vampires who dominate each quadrant of the Lydian Dynasty, I’m only known as “Blackbird”—a masked vigilante who, at nineteen, is already public enemy number one. To what’s left of humanity, I’ve been called a superhero, a title I neither welcome nor deserve.

My only objective is to offer the enslaved what was stolen from us … Freedom. However, a failed plan lands me in the last place I imagined, at the mercy of all four Dynasty princes—Julian, Levi, Roman, and Silas. They’re monsters, each with a heart rumored to be as cold as his icy skin. And what’s worse, thanks to the slip-up, my fate is suddenly theirs to decide. It’s up to them whether I’ll swing from the gallows, and I’ve given them every reason to sentence me to such a fate.

Yet, I felt something unexplainable when our paths first crossed. Something that gives me hope. We should be one another’s worst nightmare.

Only, I’m beginning to wonder if, somehow … these four princes might be my saving grace.

Thoughts from Paige

I remember really liking the first book, I think I lost touch with the series while waiting for the next books to be published.  I’m glad this popped back on my radar, especially since the full series is available on Audible. Yay!

Dragon Royals (3 book series) by May Dawson
Dragon Royals (3 book series) by May Dawson
4 week(s) on bestseller list
Description from Amazon

From Book 1: In my world, dragon shifters rule. Dragon shifters are always royals. They’re always male. They’re always assholes.

An orphaned servant like me? Everyone assumes on first shift, I’ll turn into a squirrel.

Instead, I grow wings. Breathe fire. Throw the world into chaos.

No one wants a girl in the Royal Dragon Guard. So I’m disguised as a man and sent off to military training.

The Dragon Royals are not a welcoming bunch. These princely scions of the four ruling families have been training to fight the plague-crazed Scourge since they were toddlers. Every girl in the city dreams of winning the heart of one of the dragon nobles, but they only care about each other.

Jaik, the cold-hearted hero who never smiles and never falters. Arren, who kills without mercy and guards his friends fiercely. Lynx and Branick, the twin spymasters with deadly swords. Talisyn, with the beautiful cruel mouth and endless bravery.

By night, I’m the servant they flirt with. I’m the one stealing Jaik’s heart and kissing Talisyn and antagonizing Arren. All the while, Branick and Lynx fret that I’m a spy, sent to destroy the Royals.

By day, I’m Lucien Finn, the man they despise and the dragon shifter they have to fight alongside.

These royals are determined to make me fall, and the princes play dirty. Can I ignore the pull they have on my heart and kick them off their thrones?

Will they break the maid… or kill the man? What will it do to us all when they finally discover the truth about who I truly am?

If cocky dragon shifters, steamy scenes, and snarky heroines who refuse to choose anything less than ALL their heart’s desires offend…then back away. Otherwise, scroll up and dive into the adventure alongside Honor.

Thoughts from Paige

The second book in the series just came out, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet.  I can’t actually remember finishing the first one, but if I indeed set it aside it was probably because I got distracted reading the sample of another book.  Oy.

This one 100% fits the theme.  I don’t think any of the men start catching feelings for our MC when she is wearing her man disguise, but I cannot remember.

Knightwood Academy by Rowen Black
Knightwood Academy by Rowen Black
3 week(s) on bestseller list
Description from Amazon

I’m adding the description from book one. -Paige

From book 1

Each year, the Knightwood Academy chooses the best of the best to join them.

Males from different factions are sent there to train.

This year, it’s my brother’s turn to take part, but sickness eats at his body every day, making it impossible for him to take part in the training.

I have no choice but to take his place, not only to save him from dying during training but also because I need the money for his medicine. It’s my job as his sister to do this for him.

I’m not worried. I know I can do this. I’m as fast and deadly as any man. My father made sure both my brother and I are very capable with a sword.

At the Academy, I have to share a room with the four men who will now be my unit. We have been ordered to grow close by sharing every moment of every day with each other.

My new unit mates don’t believe I will be able to keep them alive in the coming trials, because of my size, but I would prove them wrong no matter what it takes.

If they find out who I really am, I’ll be sentenced to death, and if no one can pay for my brother’s medicine, he’ll share in my fate.

Will I be able to keep my identity a secret to save my brother’s life?

I’m not sure, but I have to try.

It’s my only option.

Warning: Knightwood Academy is set in its own Dystopian world.

Slow-burn and dark Reverse Harem novel. Triggering elements appear in the story.

Thoughts from Paige

I DEVOURED this book. I am a massive sucker for the twin taking the place of their sibling. This book is my number one recommendation for folks looking for a book where the harem men start falling in love with the MC when she disguises herself as her twin brother. Some men had to grapple with new feelings, and there is M/M that develops. I felt the relationships were very authentic.

The second book was just released, but I haven’t finished it yet. The author warns of sexual assault, so I went in trying to prepare myself mentally. It didn’t work, though, and I had to stop about 50% of the way through. I’ll finish it. I’m just not in a place right now to read through what I think is coming.

Blood of the Saints: A Dark Reverse Harem Romance by: Denver Rose
Blood of the Saints: A Dark Reverse Harem Romance by: Denver Rose
24 week(s) on bestseller list
Description from Amazon

Good and Evil. Saints and Sinners.

How do we determine the difference between virtuous and immoral?

I found myself asking this over and over as I lay awake at night contemplating the consequences of one fatal mistake.

The lines are blurred between reality and my darkest desires while I fight the monsters in the shadows to protect the innocent around me.

Now I’m standing face-to-face with the three biggest monsters of all. Three devious, demented, and psychotic men who would do anything to see me break.

Ace Lennox, Theon Watson, and Blais Monroe are the definition of sinners.

A normal person would see them and run. I’m anything but normal.

Their torture and torment bring out the darkness looming under my skin. Wickedness I’ve been trying to keep locked away for years is threatening to escape.

If I let it consume me, there’s no turning back.

The only question is:

Do I fight to be a saint or do I accept that I was born to be a sinner?

Blood of the Saints is a dark reverse harem standalone!

Trigger Warning: This book contains detailed sex scenes which may include dub-con or rough sex. This book also contains extreme violence, torture, and talk or flashbacks of abuse, domestic violence, and suicide. This book is dark and recommended for 18+

Thoughts from Paige

I made it through the first two chapters of the sample! This will be a dark one, but it is extremely well written.  Once again though, I’m not wanting to read about sexual violence right now, so I’ll have to set it aside, but I’m definitely adding this to my TBR pile. But don’t just take my word for it, it’s been on the bestseller lists for a few weeks now.
