Reverse Harems – Rapunzel Style

Friends!!! I have missed you!!!

My poor, poor computer had to visit Apple for repair. Unfortunately, I may or may not have spilled a jar of cherries on it. Thank goodness for apple care!!

I have it back; it just got delivered via the most affable lady from FedEx. She even gave my puppers doggie biscuits. So nice!

Now that I have my laptop back, I feel a bit like Gollum…my preciousssss

Anyway… I was bemoaning that I couldn’t post the best-sellers list on Sunday; it was so sad. I use that list personally to find new books to read, which hurt me just as much as it did you.

Never fear! Today is a 2-for-1 special. I want to refrain from inundating you all with emails so I’m not pushing out the best-seller post. Instead, you can view it here.

The requested themed post of the day is fractured fairy tales – specifically Rapunzel.

I ended up reading a few of these; some are short. Unfortunately, these titles aren’t all on KU, but if you check your local library, they may have some of these titles.

As always, all images and descriptions are from Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I earn commission from qualifying purchases.

Be well, and happy reading!

Amazon Description

You’ve made it to the Tower. Hope starts here. These are the words we say to greet the scared, the injured, the hungry, when they finally reach the last safe haven. The Tower is the only refuge from the Blighted plague that has ravaged the land and turned the survivors into flesh-hungry animals. We are the lucky ones, and everyone else is condemned to die. Mother tells us so. Then one day comes a dangerous man with brutal brothers who tear these lies apart. Dexer, an adrenaline rush who leaves me breathless. Blaize, who makes my heart pound in crazy ways I never thought possible. Kane, who fell from grace only to lift me up. They call me Beauty, and I am theirs in a brutal world. But while the Tower still stands, we’re doomed to fall. I’ve lost so much already and I won’t watch my men die. This is no fairy tale. This is war. Author’s note: Beauty So Golden is a standalone reverse harem romance based on the fairy tale Rapunzel, in a post-apocalyptic zombie world. The story is dirty and delicious, the guys are dangerous and possessive, and the strong and sweet heroine never has to choose just one man.

Amazon Description

The territory master wants me for his bride, but his closest servant is my fated mate. Dare a woman ask for both a husband and her bonded companion?
When I was born, my father made a deal.

Now, to protect my remaining family, I must make good his bargain.

A rare specimen in a deadly and dissolving world, I am to belong to Malin Farrow: the master of Gudrune, and among the most feared leaders since the beginning of the Rift Events and all the monsters they bring with them.

Yet, despite his wicked reputation, and all the dark proclivities that make him infamous, he comes to love me–and I love him.

So what draws me to Eleison–his adversarial, standoffish, maddeningly beautiful footman with a beast in his heart?

For that matter…why must I be obsessed when Eleison can’t stand to be near me?

Inspired by Bluebeard, Beauty & The Beast, and Rapunzel, The Rift Bride is a reverse harem gothic romance set in a techno-Victorian universe. This entry features fated mates with a hot shifter on the one hand and age gap attraction with a dangerous older man on the other. It’s a medium burn with no male cheating, jealous/possessive love, an HFN ending in an HEA series, and just the right amount of angst to balance out the very steamy scenes! 18+

This series is by and large about VILLAINS who will get their happy ending, so be forewarned! Plot content can be dark and triggers include general BDSM, bondage, age gap romance, whipping/spanking, knifeplay, kidnapping, and some shocking twists in future volumes. Reader discretion is encouraged.

Thoughts from Paige

The writing in the sample seemed very high-fantasyish.  Lots of beautiful descriptions and I can tell the world building is going to be great.  I wasn’t in the mood for a deep novel, so I’ve put this in my TBR pile.  Has a lot of great reviews.

Tangles of death, danger, and monsters. Elliana and her sexy shifters must escape a witch’s vengeance.

At the age of eight, Elliana lost her father, her future, and her freedom in exchange for eternal captivity. Not to mention unimaginably long hair.

Trapped in a tower by a magical gargoyle, Elliana chances a few daring and ill-fated escapes in search of a powerful, hidden weapon, which could free her and kill the stone creature once and for all. But to do that, she must summon a sly dragon shifter, a ferocious lion shifter with way too much baggage, and a devious tiger shifter. But the witch who hexed her is returning to finish Elliana. Can she save herself and the heroic three shifters she’s slowly losing her heart to before they all die?

Dragons, lions, magical hair and love merge in this heart-wrenching tale that finds its own, unique, ‘Happily Ever After.’

Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.

Amazon Description

For a daughter of the great tower, there can be no greater shame than exile to the surface. To be cast down among the barbarians is the ultimate punishment, but perhaps it will set me free…

Thoughts from Paige

Trigger warning: Non-con, Dub-con.  I had to set it aside, but the reviewers seem to love the book, so just be aware of triggers going in.

At night, I’m free.

Free from the restraints growing tighter each day.

Free from the pressures placed on me.

Free from the disappointment of never being enough.

At night I dance and the movement sets me free, and I become whomever I want under the bright lights. My disguises offered me safety, providing me escape from the real me—Rapunzel. It started as a way to survive, but the thrill of the dance and the power I weaved soon became my addiction.

My life in shambles, my pride’s the only thing keeping me alive, clothed, and moderately fed. Asking for help isn’t in my nature, but I soon find a safe haven and place to belong at The Tower. Three men offer me something I desperately needed and I find acceptance in their love.

When the safety I found in my disguises runs out, I have to face the man who’d made me hide in the first place. Will I be able to find a happily ever after or am I doomed to always be trapped in a prison of my own making?

The root of all sin is pride, but what if it’s the only thing that can save me?

This will be the fifth book in the Sinners Fairytale Retellings series. Each installment can be read on its own, and each retelling is intended for mature audiences. Please read the forward for more information. Every author contributing to this series guarantees a HEA.

Thoughts from Paige

I did not read the sample.  The forewarning scared me away.  Have any of you read it? Do you have to read about any of the warning or is it all back story? People have highly rated this story, so I’m assuming it it is a good one.

Amazon Description

A thousand years. No memories. Five powerful mages dying to save her.

In the city of Neo New York, mages rule the world. People like Eva, the non-magical kind, mean nothing. The only destiny waiting for her will be to serve the mages for the rest of her days.

Except Eva isn’t like other humans.

Locked in a tower for a crime she doesn’t even remember, Eva is saved by none other than some of Neo New York’s most prestigious mages, and they won’t let anyone take their new toy away from them.

When Eva’s memories make a reappearance, she realizes she might be a little bit more than just a nuisance. Now, Eva must dodge jealous ex-lovers and ambitious council members, all while keeping her past a secret.

Whoever said fairy tales had happy endings hasn’t walked walked a mile in Eva’s shoes.

Thoughts from Paige

I started this book before doing my due diligence. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this will be a completed series any time soon.  Book two came out in 2020. So heads up. I am enjoying book One so far.

Amazon Description

Forget what you know—there is no Prince Charming.
I spent my life as a willing prisoner locked inside a tower. Protected by magic. Guarded by a witch. For me, Happily Ever Afters are the stuff of fairytales…

Until Wren Kincaid found me and opened my eyes to a world of possibilities.
But he’s no Prince Charming.
And I’m no ordinary girl.

The king wants to use me, and he’s tearing apart Rygard to find me. He’s too late. Wren already claimed me. I’m at the mercy of a man who was once my friend, but who now sees me as his enemy. Hidden away in a decaying castle, I’m in no rush to escape Wren and the savage outlaws holding me captive.

*TWISTED is a reimagining of Rapunzel. Characters are appropriately aged up for this dark romance. This is a scorching RH, friends-to-enemies/enemies-to-lovers with sarcastic, morally gray antiheroes. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

Thoughts from Paige

We’ve got a map in this one!! I do love when a story has a map.  It’s not as fun viewing it in e-book format, but I appreciate the effort.  Love me some maps.

•★• A Rapunzel fairy tale retelling with bite •★•
The tower was my prison. My mother, its guard. Until now . . .

Imprisoned for five years. I was consumed by loneliness and regret.

Without my wolf. Without family. Without hope.

Just as I thought I’d lost my mind, someone set me free. Someone I never thought I’d see again.

Freedom should’ve tasted sweet, but five years of constrained heats simmered beneath the surface, waiting to be unleashed. And the men I’d surrounded myself with proved to be a delicious temptation. Their beasts called to mine, and my wolf longed to call back. But invisible bonds restrained her, leaving me unsure of whether it was all in my head or a curse left over from the tower.

Yet my trapped wolf was the least of our concerns. Monsters lurked in the forest, hunting our kind. Hunting me.

Running would only do so much. We needed a sanctuary. We needed Caladah.

Despite the danger threatening us, I yearned for the love these men offered.

Am I worthy of this family, or am I truly the untamed monster that should’ve remained captive?
