Paige’s Picks – Reverse Harem Reads

I had a bigger-than-normal reading week. Kiddo was home from school for a few days, not feeling well, so I just needed to be near them at all times. So lots of time for reading & listening to books!

I think I’m finally getting over my slump. I’m in one of those moods where I want a light-hearted read or an excellent end-of-the-world book.

Speaking of zombies, do any of you voracious readers out there know when S.M. Oliver is planning to release her next Seeking Asylum book? I don’t have Facebook, so I can’t stalk the author’s page.

Side-side note: I would like to put it into the zeitgeist that I would be tickled pink if the Seeking Asylum series was released by Graphic Audio, similar to how they released the Innkeeper series by Ilona Andrews.

So, I’ve completely gone off on a tangent here. I hope you all had a wonderful book week, and have a fabulous book weekend!

Be well, and happy reading!
Paige

Progress: Finished

Prospect: No book 2?

Positives: This was a lighter story, although it does have some heavy topics.  It somehow glosses over them, which I was in the mood for.

Problems: Being really nitpicky, characters could have been fleshed out a bit.  I wouldn't be adverse to a bit more cuddling.  The REAL problem is that this came out in 2020 and there isn't a book 2.  Which is unfortunate, because there is a lot of potential for stories, both from our current FMC and down the line her cousin.

Amazon Description

The Library of the Profane has everything your black heart desires. But we don’t just allow anyone to get a library card.
Need to summon a demon? Raise the dead? A clan of vampires bothering you? Do you like the really nasty werewolf erotica? The Library of the Profane has all of that, but not everyone can handle the contents (Some people can’t handle their werewolf erotica). I’ve been a librarian here for five years and when I say I killed to get this job, I’m not being facetious.

You can’t check out our books. Some of the books are sentient and don’t like it. We have rooms to perform the spells in or hell, we do have a copy machine (copies are extra). When a witch came in and said they needed to do a little necromancy, I didn’t question it. They wouldn’t have been given a library card if they were going to raise someone really bad. I helped with the necromancy because it’s just my job as a librarian.

Except it wasn’t a normal resurrection. It was the physical embodiment of Chaos and when he woke up, he saw me first and now he’s attached. Chaos personified is a horrible library guest and he won’t leave with the witch who raised him. He’s constantly getting into things he’s not supposed to and he’s really into the werewolf erotica.

It’s not like I can let him out because the Library of the Profane is meant to contain Chaos. The rest of the world isn’t. He’s awful about keeping his identity secret too. A warlock, a Hellhound, and a vampire know he’s here and they are bugging me to let Chaos have a little fun.

I just want a normal day of summoning demons, cursing people, and telling people to be quiet in my library. This is too much.

Progress: Re-read

Prospect: Will listen to again 🙂

Positives: I'm a huge fan of this audiobook.  I love the different male voices, it's not just on male narrator.

Problems: I can't actually read these books, I don't know why but it just doesn't seem to work for me.  But I can listen to them, and I LOVE the story and the narration.

Amazon Description

I have everything that I could possibly want—money, power, and success. The only thing I’m missing is the one thing that every omega needs: a pack.
My best friend and co-founder, Tessa, and I have made our company a success by creating apps for fellow omegas. Knotted allows omegas to find alphas for one-time assistance with their heat, and Mated allows omegas to search for their forever packs in a safe environment. But now it’s time to expand our brand with Heated—an experimental reality television show that will follow an omega who is closing in on their heat as they try to choose amongst suitors who want to be a part of their pack. Because who wouldn’t want to have their struggle to find a pack televised for the masses to see?

Deciding to kill two birds with one stone by launching my career to the next level while also getting my friends and family off my back—I will be the first omega on Heated.

With only eight weeks until my heat, I didn’t realize how overwhelming it would be to be constantly surrounded by twenty hot, willing men who are all vying for my attention while also trying to run the show from behind the scenes. I can’t seem to allow the people I hired to do their jobs—after all, I’m the only one I can trust besides Tessa, right? Because if this fails, it’s all on me.

Can this control freak omega learn to let go and find her pack? Or will Heated prove to be Bree’s first and greatest failure?

Knot My Reality is the first book in a series of intertwined standalones, meaning that while the characters will show up occasionally in other books, each book is a full and complete story. This is also a why choose romance, meaning that the main character will not have to choose between her love interests. Includes M/M. This book is intended for readers 18+ due to language and content.

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Will read the next one

Positives: What a clever idea for a story!! A reader on here requested a bachelor style theme, and this fits it to a tee! I'm really looking forward to continuing the series.

Problems

Kink spoiler
There is a daddy kink in here. I can't read that, it completely takes me out of the story.

Amazon Description

I got dumped and fired for not making babies with my boss. And now my only way to get revenge is to become a nanny for his enemies…

My plan for revenge was simple: Get a job with the Graves Brothers, my ex’s biggest competitors.
Except the alphahole brothers thought my ex sent me as a company spy and refused to hire me!
I was all but defeated, when their sweet-as-pie niece demanded she wanted ME as her nanny.

Was I the most unqualified nanny in the history of nannies? Abso-FN-lutely!
But if there was a chance it could lead to a job with the Graves brothers, I was taking it.
I just never imagined these three arrogant brothers would bring me to my knees…

Zander, the oldest brother and CEO of their company, is so professional that he has the reputation for sleeping and screwing in his perfectly tailored suits. I HATE how my body responds to all of his commands.

Kyrin, the least professional of the brothers, is all swagger and cowboy hats. One look from him could melt any woman’s panties. He makes it his goal to break me like a horse, and it feels like defying gravity not to submit.

Knight, Kyrin’s twin, has a mile-wide ego and a smile that should be illegal. He’s determined to prove that I am incapable of working for them, but whenever another man looks my way, his possession over me flares.

I wasn’t supposed to catch feelings for them. I wasn’t supposed to become their GOOD little girl.
Now that my revenge plan is in motion, my ex is trying to frame me for a crime and tear me and the brothers apart.

And the men I’ve grown to love? They don’t believe I’m innocent.
I guess I’ll have to show them just how BAD this little nanny can be….

18+ Only. Nanny for the Bossholes is an extra spicy laugh-out-loud standalone why choose romance. HEA guaranteed!

Prospect: Love this author, automatic read.

Positives: This was a nice, light story.  On the surface.

Problems: If I let myself think too much about this, which I didn't while I read it, I wouldn't have found it quite so light.  This poor woman is in a male dominated field and being pushed down by all the men around her.  Don't we get enough of that in real life? Why do I have to read about that in my fiction. I also didn't think their interactions with their niece were all that fantastic.

P.S. This was exactly what I anticipated when I began reading, and it ticked the boxes I was looking for.  Except for a huge spoiler, that I really don't think you need to read before you read the book.

Ending Spoiler
What her men did to her and their niece is unforgivable, in my opinion. I almost couldn't push through and finish. They definitely did NOT make it up to her, and I didn't see any evidence that they properly helped their niece's emotional distress. It's just completely unforgivable.

Amazon Description

Kinda dead. Straight-up psycho. Totally obsessed with her.

I did a bad, bad thing.

Thanks to a blank in my memory, I’m not sure what that thing was, but it was horrible enough to get me locked up in the mental ward for seven years. Horrible enough that my little sister won’t even speak to me.

But when I’m released back into a town determined to rub my unknown sins in my face, the past isn’t the only thing that’s haunting me. The four “imaginary” friends who made my childhood bearable barge into my life in a very real way.

They’re crude, criminally inclined, and more than a little unstable after ages trapped in afterlife limbo. All they want is to protect me. Worship me. Avenge me.

So they’ll bludgeon, maim, eviscerate—tear a strip of havoc right through this sleepy town.

Even rise from the dead.

Maybe I’m still not all that sane either, because part of me finds them strangely appealing. In ways very different from how I felt as a kid. And that’s not the only strangeness stirring inside me…

I promised myself I’d stick to the straight and narrow from here on. But what if the only way to set things right is to get a little ghoulish?

*The Stalking Dead is the first in a darkly humorous new paranormal romance series by bestselling author Eva Chase. If you love sarcastic heroines with unexpected powers, obsessive supernatural men who’ll do anything to defend their woman, and plenty of mystery and mayhem, dive right in!*

Paige's Perspective

Progress Finished

Prospect: Will read book 2

Positives: I was slightly put off by the synopsis of the story, but I'm so glad I gave this a shot. There are a few mysteries here, and I cannot wait for them to unravel.

Problems: I didn't feel the heat between the FMC and the harem yet. Hopefully, that'll grow in the next book.

Coming

Paige's Perspective

Progress: DNF 20%

Prospect: I may try this one again

Positives: I'm not a huge fan of the mafia tropes, but this also had a fake relationship trope. I'm so here for that.

Problems: I couldn't get into this one, I don't know if it is just the current mood I'm in, but it just wasn't doing it for me.

P.S. I really enjoyed the authors other series, Their Temptation.  So I'll be giving books by her another try.

Amazon Description

They say the Gods don’t give you more than you can handle, which is probably why I’m sinking in drama. As a God myself, I guess I’m not included in that little speech. But it’s about time they address me as who I am.
Rhea.

WIth my intentions questioned, and my battle far from over, the list of my enemies continues to grow. The Hex, Zellus, and what seems like the entire supernatural world. But I don’t stand alone, despite their efforts.

Xander, Adonis, Zen, and Khaos. We are an unbreakable unit, forged in fire and sealed all the way down to our souls. I am theirs and they are mine.

My shifter. My demon. My angel. My vampire.

I may no longer be an earthling, but it’s clear I have traded one prison for another with Saints Academy. What they have yet to realize is I cannot be caged, and I will never stop fighting – for myself, my unit, or our freedom.

Worthy or not.

Vicious Souls is book three in the four book series, Saints Academy.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Currently reading, at 74%

Prospect: Will definitely finish

Positives: I'm enjoying the story.  I love the plot, the side characters, and the overarching mystery.

Problems: I just haven't been in a more serious book mood lately, so it's been hard to sit down and give this the time it deserves.  I'm setting it aside for now, but will 100% be finishing this series, when my brain can do it justice.

Amazon Description

Pack healers have three rules:

Never mix magics

Never fall in love with a pack member

And never forget that you will die young

I try not to think about that last one. The healer burden is one I gladly bear–my wolves need me. Even if our jackhole alpha won’t let me touch him to do my job. Oh, he’ll bring a wounded pack mate to me, but we’re forbidden to touch.

Which is probably for the best because I’m his omega. We’ve known since, well, forever. But we can never be together.

See rules one through three.

But everything changes when a powerful new wolf storms into our small town, bringing secrets and danger and everything I never knew I wanted with him.

And Alpha

Is

Pissed

Wolves of the Midnight Stars is the first book in the Healer’s Pack Series and there might be a cliffy. This is a RH omegaverse romance with plenty of sexy times, nesting, AB/o dynamics, and other filthy things. You’ve been warned.

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Already started the next book.

Positives: Great story line.

Problems: I need more character growth, maybe we'll get that in the next.

Amazon Description

I’m mated to a murderer.

My omega body doesn’t care. But I do.

This isn’t supposed to be my life. This isn’t how any of this works. And if magic keeps screwing me over, I might just have to take matters into my own hands.

When new a friend comes knocking, needing help across the country, I throw myself into the opportunity. It’s better than staying here and dealing with my problems. So, it’s off to Laurel Cove for me and my two non-murdery mates where we might make a shitload of enemies. Or life-long friends.

Can I accept Drago as my mate? I honestly don’t know. But I guess we’ll find out.

You’ll love this why-choose romance because everyone loves a morally gray hero.

Get it now. But be warned. There’s lots of steamy sexiness and some very dark themes including blood, gore, and an attempted SA.

  1. SM Olivier is having some personal stuff in her life, so everything has been put on hold. I follow her on Facebook. I know she finished one book, but her alpha and beta readers let her know it didn’t work very well so she’s doing major rewrites on that one, but it isn’t the zombie series.
