Paige’s Picks – Reverse Harem Reads Mar 17

Happy Friday!

I thought I’d have a lot more books this week vs. last because I took some PTO. Nope! I’m right at 9, which is around my weekly average of 7-9 books.  shrugs

I’ve had a ton of fun this week, and am so looking forward to a bunch of books releasing shortly. I hope you find something fun to read this weekend!

Amazon Description

An… accident? How the hell do you accidentally make a vampire?
I thought getting fired for not being pretty enough would be the worst thing I’d have to face this year.
Turns out, I was majorly wrong.
A catering gig for fast cash at an underground club ended in my death.
And then I woke up.
Trapped in a cell by the man who killed me.
Correction – the vampire who killed me and made me one, too.
By accident.
Now, he’s forcing me into hiding on the fringes of vampire society. And no one can know that I even exist or the Vampire Queen of New York will take my head. And his too.
If that wasn’t stressful enough, becoming a vampire is not great. I keep passing out, my skin is too sensitive, and blood lust is a whole body pain experience. Until it turns into plain old regular lust, and I’m clawing at my maker to satisfy some needs.
Oh, and did I mention I can’t have sex or I risk being magically bound for the rest of my immortal life?
Not that I want to have sex with the wounded, powerful gorgeous man that took my life and turned me into a monster.
Nope. I totally will not fall for him. That would be way too messed up…Right?

*****
Author’s Note: Broody vampires and enemies to lovers? Yup. Slow-build and slow-burn why choose? You got it! Biting? Violence? Steam? Oh yes. Three Book Series? Coming right up!
Accidental Vampire is book one in the Accidental Vampire series. It is a slow-build, slow-burn, why choose paranormal romance intended for mature audiences.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: In progress, 32% Completed

Prospect: pre-ordered book 2

Positives: I like the speed of the book.  Lots of backstory.  I'm still in the setting up stage, so I'm anxious to finish.  Holy crapola, what a blast that book was.  Intrigue, politics, strategy. Super excited for this series.

Problems:  Too early to tell.

Amazon Description

I never intended to bond with this baby dragon.I definitely didn’t intend to become his wife.
Crown Prince Draven, heir to the Nithian throne and the bane of my existence.
But as soon as my dragon and I are presented to the king and queen, we are rejected.
My dragon is not big enough, not good enough, and neither am I.
So I’m shoved into the dragon rider corps to train to be a royal rider
And told to find a husband among them.
I know who I want. The four men who rescued me from ruin, who’ve protected me the entire time.
And I don’t want to take just one.
The problem is dragons are power in this country and the last time a woman took four riders as consorts, she was queen.
And Draven would never allow such a threat to his future reign exist.

This is a dragon rider fantasy romance.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Pre-ordered book 2

Positives: Fantastic story, excellent writing.  I love the characters, they all have depth and a great backstory.  Cannot wait to see what happens.

Problems: I want moooore!

Amazon Description

They call themselves the Underground Omega Syndicate and, according to the message they so helpfully left me, I’m being forced to do their bidding, whether I like it or not. They know things no one else does—private details that have been kept under lock and key— and are threatening to expose my dirty little secrets if I don’t play along.
Except they’ve made one teensy miscalculation. Am I going to correct them? Hell no. By the time they realize their mistake, I’ll have turned the tables, utilizing the resources they’ve so graciously provided for my own personal agenda.

The only thing I didn’t count on? The Alphas who threaten to throw a wrench in all my carefully laid plans. They say our history means more to them than any job or directive their boss could order them to carry out. That I mean more. They want what I promised—for us to become a pack.

But how do I tell them the woman they knew and apparently loved is gone, when they can see her standing right in front of them?

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Sort of finished

Prospect: undecided

Positives: I liked the strength of the FMC, liked the secret society.

Problems: I absolute hate the misunderstanding/secrets trope.  I actually skipped about 10 chapters to get to the point where everyone knew everything.  I enjoyed the second half of the book immensely, and didn't feel like I missed anything.

Amazon Description

When I embarked on my rebound rodeo cruise, the last place I expected to end up was on hot-bod monster island. Not that I’m complaining. The views are fantastic and the impressive amenities offered by my hosts have made it easy to come back for more.
10/10 would recommend.

I’m starting to think there’s some truth to this whole “mate-bond” thing—if the murderous rage I feel whenever anyone threatens what’s mine is any indication.

Scary Leia is ready to throw hands… or claws… or tentacles.

Now my ride or die is stuck here with me, and our enemies are closer than we think. My men believe they can’t be heroes, but they’ve already proven there’s more to them than meets the eye.

I intend to clear their names if it’s the last thing I do. Olympus is about to learn, there is no monster greater than a bad bish like me.

Please note: This is book 2 in a duet. You will want to read The 12 Hunks of Herculeia first.

Herculeia the Hero is a medium-dark rom-com loosely based on the 12 Labors of Heracles, with many ridiculous liberties taken. And before my fellow history nerds get their togas in a bunch, I am aware that Hercules/Herculeia is the Roman spelling (it gets addressed in the book, trust.)

This book is meant for readers 18 and over.

This series includes:
MM (loads of it – with their own relationship arcs)Multiple POV
Cliffies

Possible triggers in this series:
Sweary dialogue
Naughty irreverent humor
An overly possessive, slightly unhinged group of men
Very spicy extracurricular activities (please see inside book for more details)
Light threat of violence with a knife
Trauma related to past death in the family, a bad breakup, and a magical shipwreck
Signature weirdness and medium-dark elements
Greek myths with many ridiculous liberties taken

In general, please do not read this if you own pearls to clutch, or if you regularly ask to speak to the manager, as you and I will probably not get along.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Will read more by this author.

Positives: A lot happened in this one.

The author, and our fmc, both express love is love a lot.  And with 12 mates, I'm not surprised they found love within the harem.

Problems: I will say that I almost felt our FMC was superfluous at times, like she was second to the other bonds between the men.

P.S.: I'm glad I read it, and it had wonderful storytelling; I'm used to our FMC being the main focus a bit more than in this one.  I'd say this is closer to a polyamours group relationship than a reverse harem, if we are getting technical. 🙂

Rebecca Mason, 18:

Adopted. Abandoned. Institutionalized. Attacked.

And now an initiate to a corrupt supernatural organization with the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Becks really wishes she could die.
She’s ready to end it all, prepared to tell the world how she feels with a drop to a fast stop on a swinging rope.

However, her body just won’t stop healing anything and everything she does to it.
She’s tired of being called crazy, and done with her life in a dull and evil world where magic is labeled as psychosis.

That is, until her fiercely protective, foul-mouthed familiar shows up with a plan to convince her otherwise. A plan Becks isn’t sure she’s ready to tackle.

After all, how can the fate of the world rest on someone who’s clinically insane?

But her familiar has help in the back pocket of his toddler-sized onesie:
An authoritative spell worker, a sweet as sin psychic, and an angry shapeshifter form a team of three very distracting men that’ll whip her right into shape, whether she likes it or not.

If only Becks can get over her past long enough to give each of them, and life itself a chance.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: In progress, 67%

Prospect: Will likely finish.

Positives: Interesting story, lots is happening.

Problems: Is too much happening? And not enough.  Interesting dilemma.  Will need to read more.

Amazon Description

I came to warn them, but instead I put them in the line of fire.
Now one piece of my heart is missing, while the other pieces are forced to leave behind everything they’ve ever known to protect me.

The truth about who I am and where I came from weighs on me. Is anything real?

All I know for sure is that the people responsible for bringing me into the world are the very ones putting the only family I have ever known in danger. But I will stop at nothing to keep them safe. I will use everything they gave me against them and risk everything to take them down.

Little do they know, a reckoning is coming.

Retribution is the follow up novel to Progeny. The action and the spice in this sci-fi/ contemporary reverse harem novel are turned up as Six and her men face the unknown. Please refer to the author’s note for content warnings.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Will read more by this author.

Positives: Fantastic story line, really exciting to see everything come together.

Problems

P.S. I'm really glad I read this duet, it was a good read.

Amazon Description

I thought I was living the dream—until the fateful day I found my boyfriend in bed with my boss. As a professional copywriter, it was the tired cliche that hurt me the most.
What’s a big city girl to do but pack my bags and go solo on that Grecian cruise I’d booked with my ex. Who needs a man when you have tropical breezes, stunning vistas, and free cocktails with frilly umbrellas?

But thanks to a freak storm, I find myself washed ashore on a mysterious Greek Isle inhabited by 12 hotties determined to help me in any way they can.

What in the rom-com setup is this?

Somehow, I’ve ended up inside a famous Greek myth, tasked with conquering the very men I find myself unable to resist—despite their fur, fangs, tentacles, extra appendages, and extremely large…secrets of their own.

Danger lurks around every crumbling ancient ruin, but the longer I stay, the more I wonder if I want to return to my old life at all.

Here, I get to be the heroine of my own story, and it might just be time to rewrite history.

** Please note: This is book 1 in a duet (it IS 12 men after all) **

Herculeia is a monstrously mythic, medium-dark rom-com loosely based on the 12 Labors of Hercules, with many ridiculous liberties taken. And before my fellow history nerds get their togas in a bunch, I am aware that Hercules is the Roman spelling (it gets addressed in the book, trust.) For those wondering how weird this is gonna get in the sheets: Think monster shifters, who maintain fancy accessories in human form.

Includes MM (loads of it!)
Multiple POV

This book is meant for readers 18 and over.

Possible triggers:
Sweary dialogue
Naughty irreverent humor
Graphic sex, including kink and various edgeplay
Gore and violence
Trauma related to past death in the family, a bad breakup, and a magical shipwreck
Signature weirdness and medium-dark elements

In general, please do not read if you own pearls to clutch, or if you regularly ask to speak to the manager, as you and I will probably not get along.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Already read book 2

Positives: This was an interesting read.  Lots of mystery, and lots of special peens and sexy times.

Problems: I can't remember about this specifically, see my post for book two. 🙂

Paige's Perspective

Progress: DNF 48%

Prospect: I suck and totally skipped to the last chapter to see what happens.

Positives: Interesting premise

Problems: Yowza, too dark for me.

Amazon Description

When Aisling is chosen by lottery to hold Samhain Vigil in the woods outside her hometown, she couldn’t have imagined how completely her life would change.
Attacked by the Faerie Horde? Undesirable, but a known risk.

Claimed by the Four Horsemen of Faerie while at Death’s door? Impossible. And yet, the possibility that had never even crossed Aisling’s radar promises to make Samhain explosive.

Trick or treat?

Vigil was originally published under Mariah Thayer as part of the Booktober 2022 PNR Charity Anthology collection. It contains graphic content and as such is unsuitable for readers under 18.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Will read another by this author

Positives: Great plot, loved the idea of it.

Problems: This was only 87 pages. It was a great outline for a novel, and I do believe this could be a novel.  Or a prequel.  So much more could have happened to flesh this out.  BUT it was marketed as a short story, so I'm it's not like it was a surprise.  I just wanted more.

P.S. I liked this book, it's not on KU but is priced appropriately in my opinion.
