Friends, it is FINALLY Friday.
It has been one heck of a week on my side. If you’ve read some previous posts, you may have caught the bit where I’m a bit anal about schedules. Well, mine was shot to bits this week, and I’m clawing my way back to being on track. You get sick for one day-blergh
At any rate, hopefully, I’ll be back to my regular posting schedule for those of you that have caught on to it, starting with our Best Sellers post on Sunday.
In the meantime, settle down with me and enjoy these magnificent mysteries. I was in the mood for some more bite to my books, but not in a dark way. On the contrary, I wanted an edge of my seat, what will happen, type of vibe.
I guess an alternative title to this post could be “What I read this week, and what I’m going to read this weekend”—what a mouthful.

I am not 100% right now, and I think I’ve been either too hard or too easy on the samples I’ve been reading for this post. I will be reading this book, sounds very interesting. BUT this is a first-person point of view, and instead of our MC thinking mom, she thinks Sarah. But calls her mom. It was very jarring.
BUT I’m pickier than I usually am, and both the reviews and the mystery are intriguing, so I include it.

I just finished re-listening/reading this series again. I wish I had finished book two before I posted the dancing theme, there is a HOT dance scene that occurs in the book.
I really enjoy this series. If you are able, I highly recommend listening to it. The book is good, the narration takes it to another level. Our MCs snarkiness shines so much more. The story is from Allison’s POV, but there is a male narrator who does the male voice. It’s fantastic, I don’t think I’ve heard another audiobook quite like it. I’ll stop gushing now.
The series is one big giant crazy what the fuck is going on, and I love it.
Do be advised that there are several modern-day references to books, events, and political figures. I did see some reviews that indicated it detracted from their enjoyment.
From Book 1: T’was a Dark & Sexy Night when my bestie-with-benefits and I agreed to revamp the kink-themed hotel. We were expecting vibrating beds and heart shaped tubs, not a long-lost flame and certainly not a harem of love. But there’s more than just cobwebs in these closets. There are skeletons… and surprise, surprise… some of them are mine.
There’s nothing I enjoy more than making magic in the bedroom but taking on this ‘hotel of horrors’ is driving me crazy. Quite literally, I’m having the strangest flashbacks of kidnappings and asylums. Are the ghostly girls of Wolfeboro trying to tell me something or am I losing my mind? Of course, I’m also having flashbacks of a sensual nature, involving the men around me and the summer I fell in love. The weird part is that some of these memories include the newest ghost hunter in town. But how can I have memories of a man I only just met? Is he the reason I’m being haunted?
We’ll have the hotel ready in time for the grand opening, provided I can stay alive. But that might be easier said than done, with my unbalanced sister stalking me. Not to mention, the ghostly girl who keeps leading me down dark and dangerous hallways.
For a mystery obsessed woman like me, there’s only one thing to do when faced with the dark… click on the flashlight.

Okay, I sweat I didn’t add the book just because of that line. Pinky promise. The mystery appears to begin right in the prologue. Is it the past? The future? And the plot thickens before chapter one is even over. I must know everything! Hence, I downloaded the book. I cannot wait for my mystery weekend.
P.S. Let me know if you are able to finish the prologue without getting The Sound of Silence stuck in your head.

I love, love, love this series. I have this one in paper format too. It’s available on hoopla, so you can even read/listen to it courtesy of your local library! I really enjoyed following the breadcrumbs and trying to figure things out.

I am new to this author, but I am loving their writing style. This feels like the shortest ever sample, mainly because it is. Two pages, and that’s being generous. But the prequel is currently listed at $0.00, and the rest of the series is on KU. I’ve already ‘bought’ the prequel and cannot wait to read this book; it sounds scrumptiously suspenseful.

“One of the things I like most about this coffee shop is the cute designs they make in the cappuccinos. Today, mine has five white leaves…” What a beautiful allusion!! I’m digging the style of the book, and the imagery we get to see due to our MC being an artist. Eyes aren’t just blue, they are “as beautiful and blue as a turquoise ocean”. I really feel like I’m seeing the story through our MCs eyes. I am adding this to my weekend Mystery Extravaganza.

Do you ever start a sample and just get a feeling you are going to like the book? I actually stopped reading the sample before it ended. I got awesome LORTR vibes with the scene in the water. Alaric sounds delicious, and I just knew if I kept reading this post would never be finished. I cannot believe I’ve missed this series until now!

I am not in the mood for a bully HS romance, but this series has a lot of good reviews. I will definitely be putting this on my TBR pile. I do like books with multiple POVs, and I’m really interested to read an RH that is more from the harems perspective, I’m fascinated to see how that will work!
