My Week in Books: The Hits and Misses

Friends,

This was a light reading week for me.

If you caught the theme post, lighthearted reads, on Tuesday, you’d know I got a plodding start. Unfortunately, half of this post is just a repeat of the lighthearted books I found for our theme post. Shrug. At least I had a random theme to fall back on, and I quite liked many of them!

I was feeling a bit in a reading slump, or I guess a Reverse Harem reading slump, technically, but reading some of these books helped me climb out. I’m in the middle of Bad Omen, and oh so sad that there isn’t a book two already. At least I have a new author to follow; looking forward to reading more of their books!

I hope you have all had a good reading week. Also, have a fantastic, restful weekend! And don’t forget to share your own recommendations in the comments below!

Be well, and happy reading,
Paige

Amazon Description

I’ve known my entire life that everyone in Hell wants me dead. They fear me. Not because I’m the Devil’s daughter—well, okay, that may be part of it—but because they think I’m a bad omen. My father was prophesied to have a son. Then I came along. and every resident in Hell believes I’m the beginning of their end.I’m the female version of my father. I’m ruthless because I have to be. I’m a killer because it’s kill or be killed, and I sure as Hell don’t want to die. I’m nineteen, and I hit my immortality already. There’s only one weapon that can kill me. But that doesn’t mean I want to be tortured and maimed either. So I fight to prove they can’t take me down.
This year I start Hell’s Fire Academy. It’s the school all Demons go to so we know where their skills best suit Hell. On the first day of school, I do something stupid. I save a Demon’s life instead of killing him. Then I see the only two guys I’ve ever called friends before. It’s been fourteen years, and it still feels like I’ve known them forever. It was always the three of us. Stronger together than we were apart. But I forgot about that and I forgot them.
Then there’s my roommate; he’s the last Demon I wanted to share a room with. So why am I still here? Why do I trust these men to have my back? I haven’t trusted anyone except my dad since I was five, but I can’t seem to stay away from them.
When I’m taken and tortured, I learn that I was betrayed. It hurts me more than I should have allowed it to. I let people into my heart, and I’m hurt because of it. But there’s more to the story than that. The problem is, can I trust the reason? Can I believe it’s the truth?
**This is a reverse harem story. This means that the female main character will have multiple male partners and will not have to choose between them. Contains mature content and violence.**

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Currently realigning

Prospect: Will finish tonight

Positives: I'm loving this idea, what a great book.  There's already a great setup for plot, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Problems: It's too early to tell.  I'm dying to know what happened to her mom etc.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: In process

Prospect: I'm listening to it off and on

Positives: It's on hoopla, and is audio.  It's an interesting concept.

Problems: The FMC seems a tad TSTL (Too stupid to live), and I'm not sure if I can cope.

Amazon Description

My teenage fantasies want me; All four of them.

If I could just kiss all of them; my fantasy Banshee: America’s top rock band and my daddy’s best friends.

Ten years later and right out of business school I see them again; I have one week to clean the biggest PR mess a rock band has ever created. One week or I ruin my father’s PR firm.

Leather jackets, bare chests, cigarette smoke, the deja vu alone has my throat dry and panties wet. I am a mess!

I tremble as Cole, Tobias, Jersey and Rory, stare through me with their steely looks. If intent counts, I’d be naked and spread on the same table where I lay my damage control plan.

And I just can’t say no when they put me in their hot tub. Wet, steamy, desire oozing from my body, I manage to stand as the rockstars close in, moments from making me the luckiest fan girl alive. They pass me around, and I love each one. Love flows hard, like a waterfall. It’s so wrong, yet feels so right. They are my teenage fantasy and I am their missing link!

My father would freak out. Can I still make this arrangement work?

Her Rockstar Friends is a standalone reverse harem romance with a guaranteed HEA, no cliffhanger, and plenty of steam. Grab your copy now!

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Undecided

Positives:  There was a lot going on, a lot of tropes to play with.

Problems: I didn't really get the relationships, and the change in tenses through me off.

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: I'll read more by these authors

Positives: Super fun shared universe.  I haven't read a plot like this, really enjoyed it.  It was a nice, quick read.

Problems: It's a me problem.  I somehow skimmed the synopsis and thought it meant they were castaways stranded on an island.  OOPS.  Totally wrong genre.  My bad.

Amazon Description

A sane witch would never summon the immortal Demon Lords of Blackwood.

Not if she expects to keep breathing

Everyone knows that

So imagine my surprise when, in a reckless and drunken effort to avenge my sister’s death, I summon a revenge demon.

Only it’s not a lowly minion who shows up.

It’s them…

Vrahs- the charming alpha with the face to back up the swagger

Ryker- damaged and dark with god-level magnetism

And

Thorne– a violent hedonist dead set on adding me to his list of indulgences

All three Lords of Blackwood.

Furious.

Bound to me.

And determined to bully me out of our contract.

Even if it means breaking me.

Paige's Perspective

Progress Finished

Prospect Will read book 2

Positives:  I really liked the plot and the supporting characters.  So far the harem are all dicks, but I'm assuming we are going to get a fantastic redemption arc here.

Problems The book started out with a bang. I think it's part of a shared universe, and while I didn't feel like I was missing anything, I do feel I missed some character enrichment/understanding. Also, the FMC felt a little whiney at times, but she's also going through a lot, so it wasn't a big problem.

Amazon Description

Emerson Parker is exhausted. She spends her days chasing around her high energy, half-shifter toddler and her nights working full-time trying to make ends meet.

…oh, and add in the absolute cluster of a situation her ex dumped in her lap on his way out?

Well, that’s just icing on the cake.

With virtually no options left, Emerson heads for Haven, a sanctuary city for monsters and humans alike. Survival means taking a job at The Monster’s Den – a club that caters to the inhuman residents of her new home.

But freedom comes with complications of its own: delusional monsters dead set on inserting themselves into her life and her bed.

With the North American Alpha hot on her heels and monsters standing in his way…

Will it be enough to keep Emerson and her daughter safe?

Paige's Perspective

Progress: Finished

Prospect: Loved it, will read more

Positives: I really liked the harem, it grew organically.

Problems: I want more! There are SO MANY side characters that can have their own stories.  I don't want to spoil anything, but off the top of my head I can think of four characters that could have fantastic spin-offs.
