All The Pretty Monsters Books 1-3 Review

This novel was an unexpected surprise. I had no idea what expect going into it. What I did know from my fellow readers is that it was funny. What I knew from my previous experiences reading Kristy Cunning is that she is a great author who writes novels that a pleasure to read. Gypsy Blood is a PRN RH. Swearing, but what doesn’t have that these days. Book 1 says sexual content, but I felt more like sexual tension. And dark humour. Well. Read the synopsis and you’ll understand why there is dark humour.

Here’s the synopsis from Amazon-

“I’m not all that special, really. Or uncommon. I’m sure there are a lot of girls with old gypsy blood who see the dead, have killer cults hunting their family, and turn into something that gets scary when they panic. Yep. Completely unoriginal, if I do say so myself.
Move along. Nothing to see here. Nope. I’m just an ordinary girl.

I wish people would believe that.

I’ve been labeled as one thing or another for most of my life:
Death Girl.
Crazy Gypsy Girl.
Gothic Chick.

It took my mother’s death for me to finally start getting answers about what’s really been going on. Unfortunately, most of the answers come from men…who aren’t just men. Somehow, I’ve gone and landed myself in a world truly filled with monsters, and I’m starting to think this is where I should have been all along.

Only…I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m walking into the middle of a story that’s thousands of years old, and I’m the new girl on the block who doesn’t have a clue how this world even works. My only guides happen to be the most lethal of the bunch.

They decide who lives or dies. They decide who gets stabbed or tortured.

I’ve gone and drawn attention to myself, and the ones paying attention are the ones everyone else seems to fear.

How do these things always happen to me?”

Our main character is 25 years old. She just lost her mother and has moved to the town where her mother both worked, and was murdered in. She decides she is going to take over her moms gypsy business (clients included) while trying to solve her murder. She also befriends a crazy ghost. Some of the things Anna (the ghost) did/said had me laughing out loud. I’d rather not attach any spoilers. What I can tell you is that I will most certainly be reading book 2 which is titled Gypsy Freak, and it is already available to read. As always, happy reading! -Quare Eligere

Book 2, Gypsy Freak was a rapid release after book 1. It picks up right where we left off hanging on our little cliffhanger. Violet is still reeling from accidentally waking Arion the psychotic sexy vampire. She’s not too happy with him because she trusted him as his alter ego to help her help Anna.

Now he’s telling her that she’s the answer to all the guys problems. Her and her magic lady bits. She’s going to stop their fighting and bring them together, and magically they have no more problems. Right.

This novel the guys talk around Violet and act like she’s an idiot. This annoyed me on more than one occasion, but consider the source. For one the guys are ancient, and pretty set in their selfish ways. They don’t think about their actions and how they affect others. They’re old.

I’m seeing a lot of reviews out there where people are complaining about this series books ending on cliffhangers. I’d like to address the imaginary elephant in the room. How does one think an author keeps you engaged in a series? If they tied each story up with all questions and plot answered in each book, would you likely feel the need to keep reading? Just food for thought. If a book ends on a cliffhanger, it makes you need answers. Frankly, for an open series a cliffhanger ending is perfect. It makes the readers excited, annoyed, and want the next installment of the story. But I digress, book 2 was great. It was interesting to learn about Arion. It was sad for Violet and her ghost friend Anna. You felt for Violet because everyone seemed to know everything and she could only catch breadcrumbs to guess the big story.

Book 3 Gypsy Origins is by far my favorite of the series. Violet is taking less flack from the alphas. Sadly Anna is gone. Violet has proven a worthy force to be reckoned with, and Emit is keeping her secret. A secret that these smart alphas can figure out on their own with clues about Violets family that not even she understands. Even though no one really knows what Violet is, or what her alter ego looks like.

Hellllllo sexy times. 3 out of 4 of the alphas have been with Violet and I’ll say that those scenes do not disappoint. I don’t want to give away too much as we’re still going strong in the story. If you are reading this and have no read books 1 and 2. Shoo! Away with you. You’re going to ruin it for yourself. *Flicks hand* Away! I’m not telling you what happens in this book because it will be spoiler city. What I can say is that book 4, I am anxiously awaiting for. See what I did there.
